About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Category Manager to join our Hardlines team at Red Apple Stores ULC. As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for building an appropriate assortment through planning, developing, sourcing, buying, managing, and administering merchandise within assigned categories and/or departments to ensure the effective achievement of the business plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Merchandising Strategy Development
Develop, manage, and administer the merchandising and financial strategy and plan for hardline categories and/or departments, built in alignment with overall business objectives.
Planning and ForecastingAccountable for preparing plans and forecasts of sales, turns, margins, and open-to-buy working with the Planner.
Customer InsightsProactively work to anticipate customer needs for hardlines categories by building a focused merchandising strategy.
Product Sourcing and NegotiationMerchandise assortment building, sourcing, and negotiating, product selection, pricing, and ordering for all programs (core, seasonal, and opportunity buys).
Communication and CollaborationRegular communication with the allocation team, build and maintain good vendor relations, and communicate with logistics and stores as required.
Marketing and PromotionPlan and coordinate the execution of all promotional activities of assigned categories, including Seasonal, Monthly, and Weekly promotional planning (Advertising, signing, and product setup).
Market Research and AnalysisConduct market research - customer, industry, direct, and indirect competition and external environment.
Store Visits and FeedbackVisit Red Apple Stores and Competition regularly to maintain a connection with the field and understand challenges in execution at store level.
Special ProjectsUndertake special projects as required.
About You
- Experience and Qualifications
Minimum 3-4 years of previous hardlines retail (toys/electronics/other hardlines) experience, degree or diploma in Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
Skills and AbilitiesExcellent negotiator and communicator with attention to detail, results-driven, self-starter with a demonstrated passion for buying and a desire to learn our business, ability to work in a team or independently, demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task, and proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and intermediate working knowledge of merchandising systems.
