Job Summary:

DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Program Coordinator to join our Safe Haven Team in Surrey, BC. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering programs designed to support the social and economic integration of vulnerable refugee claimants, CUEAT visa holders, and refugee newcomers in the Surrey and Delta communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance to the Group Orientation Coordinator with coordination support and interpretation for group sessions on immigration processes, job readiness, mental health, and community resources.
  • Conduct client intake to assess client needs and eligibility and refer to the appropriate team members.
  • Independently conduct outreach in the community to attract new clients in creative and effective ways and help promote Safe Haven events with clients and partners.
  • Take detailed notes during meetings to ensure accurate record-keeping and follow-up.
  • Offer clients information on available services and make referrals to appropriate community resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community service providers to enhance program referrals and partnerships.
  • Plan, organize, and attend events, such as forums and community engagements, to promote program services and support integration.
  • Establish and maintain an inventory of community resources and services available to clients.
  • Work closely with other program staff and stakeholders to identify emerging needs and develop responsive service strategies.
  • Schedule, monitor, and oversee volunteers working within the program and provide training to new volunteers to support program needs.
  • Facilitate effective coordination and communication within the team to ensure seamless service and support delivery.
  • Report Administration: Assist the manager in compiling and tracking reports and ensuring compliance with funder deadlines.
  • Create newsletters to share with Safe Haven Community Partners and clients.
  • Organize and oversee program activities for refugee claimants and other eligible vulnerable newcomers.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in a related human/social services field.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in project coordination, administration, volunteer management, and working with refugee claimants or vulnerable populations or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong understanding of immigrant and settlement issues, integration processes, and the challenges faced by refugee claimants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team setting.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to build and maintain partnerships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy skills, including proficiency with MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, internet research, Canva, Doodle Poll, and social media.
  • A second language is an asset.
