Position Overview

The Nutrition and Food Services department is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to join our team. This role involves working within both patient and retail food service environments. Reporting directly to the Manager or Food Service Supervisor, the Food Service Worker will be tasked with preparing and delivering meals and supplies to patients, residents, staff, families, and customers. In addition, the role includes maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of patient trays, equipment, and workspaces while adhering to safe food handling practices.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Food Service Worker will vary based on the specific site and role, but generally include:

  • Patient Meal Selection: Engage with patients to assist in meal selection through phone calls or in-person visits, utilizing electronic devices for order entry.
  • Food Preparation and Service: Assemble and serve meals for patients and visitors, including special dietary needs and beverages.
  • Delivery and Collection: Efficiently deliver meals and supplies while collecting soiled trays and ensuring proper inventory management.
  • Food Safety and Sanitation: Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the work area, ensuring safe food handling and hygiene practices are followed.
Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate how they meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Competency in English and basic Math skills.
  • Previous experience in a restaurant or customer service environment is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrating respect and civility.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that include extensive standing, walking, and lifting.
