Key Responsibilities

  • Execute routine tasks across both laboratory and radiology departments as necessary.
  • Laboratory Duties:

  • Engage in hematology, coagulation, and chemistry processes.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance checks as required.
  • Analyze patient samples and generate reports.
  • Manage the receipt of blood components and products.
  • Allocate and dispense uncrossmatched red blood cells, albumin, RHIG, IVIG, plasma, and crossmatched red cells.
  • Oversee the transportation of blood components and products.
  • Implement quarantine measures and disposal of blood products.
  • Perform pooling and reconstitution of purified plasma products (e.g., PCC, fibrinogen).
Radiology Duties:

  • Conduct general x-ray procedures within the department and on patient floors.
  • Prepare imaging materials for physicians and radiologists by retrieving relevant prior films and completing necessary documentation.
  • Maintain the film library effectively.
Carry out phlebotomy for both inpatients and outpatients. Document and monitor both internal and external quality control processes. Perform clerical tasks including inventory management, daily statistics tracking, file maintenance, and referral of x-ray films and specimens. Engage in internal and external quality assurance initiatives. Conduct equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, documenting all actions taken. Assist in the orientation of new staff, including conducting training sessions as needed. Provide on-call services as necessary. Adhere to health and safety protocols, promptly reporting any unsafe conditions to supervisors. Undertake additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduation from an accredited Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology Program.
  • Eligibility for registration with the relevant provincial licensing authority.
  • Completion of the NAIT TRAM 101 Course, with a minimum of one year of recent relevant experience or equivalent education and training.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven working knowledge of the assigned laboratory sections.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and technical competence in conducting tests, including quality control and safety measures.
  • Basic understanding of the research process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload efficiently.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic awareness of other healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment and software.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to fostering reconciliation and understanding of Indigenous Peoples' rights and issues.
  • Knowledge of the social, economic, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples is considered a strong asset.
