Role Overview:

Our Vancouver office is currently recruiting for a Director of Professional Resources, reporting to our Chief Professional Resources Officer. The Director of Professional Resources provides support for all professional resources functions in the Regional office.

The Director works in collaboration with the Professional Resources team and other Operations teams to drive alignment and synergies of recruitment efforts, programming, and talent management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Student Program

Managing and leading the firm's student recruitment efforts for the regional office, including promotion and outreach with law schools and management of all formalized student recruitment efforts including resume review and interviewing.

2. Organizing orientation programs for articling and summer students which includes creating schedules and subsequent materials and assigning both junior and senior mentors.

3. Managing and supporting regional summer and articling students to support their experience at the firm including on-boarding, orientation, training, mentorship, social events, work allocation, performance evaluation, coaching and career development guidance.

4. Developing and maintaining relationships with universities, law schools, and other career development programs to further support the firm's student recruitment and training programs.

5. Overseeing the management of sponsorships and internships and the development of increased firm profile and engagement at the law school level.

Drafting offer letters/memos and creating and updating articling and summer students' employment files.

6. Administrating performance evaluation processes for articling students and summer students using viEval, including but not limited to tracking completion of matter assignments and performance reviews and following up on outstanding feedback.

Managing the budget for the students which includes student recruitment, tuition, and membership fees and seminars.

Associate Program

Supporting the Chief Professional Resources Officer with lateral recruitment efforts including resume screening, interviews, and candidate outreach.

Drafting offer letters and memos and creating and updating associate employment files.

Managing and supporting associates, including on-boarding, orientation, mentorship programs, social events, work allocation, engagement and retention, performance evaluation/management and coaching/development, counselling/mental health resources.

Manage associate departures, conduct exit interviews, and facilitate alumni connections.

Lawyer Learning and Development

Support the Director of Learning & Development with regional specific learning and development content.

Support provincially-called lawyers in tracking and meeting their Law Society Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and/or demonstrated skills:

1. Former practicing Legal Professional preferred.

2. Minimum of 10 years of progressive Professional Resources and/or Professional Development experience, preferably in a management role.

3. Experience in change management and performance management required.

4. Experience in legal professional recruitment strongly preferred.

5. Experience in successfully leading and managing teams.

6. Experience in project management.

7. Strong internal client focus and strives for optimal client service and employee experience.

8. Strategic, nimble thinker with the ability to engage different stakeholders, including Partners, on developing and executing plans.

9. Exceptionally open-minded and receptive to new ideas and suggestions.

10. Recognizes the value and possesses the ability to clearly articulate goals and expectations both verbally and written.

11. Proactive, highly adaptable, flexible and energetic.

12. Enjoys experimenting with new ideas, takes an innovative lens on their work and utilizes technology to drive efficiency.

13. Highly-organized and able to manage time efficiently, including prioritizing and re-prioritizing tasks as workloads evolve.

14. Ability to understand, filter and analyze data, including visualization tools, and present the information to support proposed strategic recommendations.

15. Enjoys working independently on quick turnaround projects, and as part of a larger team to ideate strategies and develop agile solutions.

16. Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to inspire, engage and empower others.

17. Highly professional, and approaches role with high level of discretion, tact and maturity.

18. Comfortable working as part of a national team, and willing to travel occasionally between offices to foster and build relationships.
