Role Overview:

Our Vancouver office is actively seeking a Director of Professional Resources, who will report directly to our Chief Professional Resources Officer. This role involves supporting all professional resources functions within the regional office. The Director will collaborate with the Professional Resources team and other Operations teams to enhance alignment and synergies in recruitment initiatives, programming, and talent management.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Program

  • Overseeing and directing the firm's student recruitment initiatives for the regional office, which includes outreach and promotion with law schools, as well as managing all formalized student recruitment activities such as resume evaluations and interviews.
  • Coordinating orientation programs for articling and summer students, which entails creating schedules, developing materials, and assigning both junior and senior mentors.
  • Managing and supporting regional summer and articling students to enhance their experience at the firm, including onboarding, orientation, training, mentorship, social events, work allocation, performance evaluations, coaching, and career development guidance.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with universities, law schools, and other career development programs to bolster the firm's student recruitment and training initiatives.
  • Supervising the management of sponsorships and internships, while enhancing the firm's profile and engagement at the law school level.
  • Drafting offer letters/memos and maintaining accurate employment files for articling and summer students.
  • Administering performance evaluation processes for articling and summer students using viEval, which includes tracking completion of assignments and performance reviews, and following up on outstanding feedback.
  • Managing the budget allocated for student recruitment, tuition, membership fees, and seminars.

Associate Program

  • Assisting the Chief Professional Resources Officer with lateral recruitment efforts, including resume screening, interviews, and candidate outreach.
  • Drafting offer letters and memos, and maintaining updated associate employment files.
  • Managing and supporting associates, which includes onboarding, orientation, mentorship programs, social events, work allocation, engagement and retention, performance evaluation/management, and coaching/development, as well as providing counseling and mental health resources.
  • Overseeing associate departures, conducting exit interviews, and facilitating alumni connections.
  • Collaborating on national professional resources projects to ensure regional perspectives are integrated into development and implementation.

Lawyer Learning and Development

  • Supporting the Director of Learning & Development with region-specific learning and development content.
  • Assisting provincially-called lawyers in tracking and fulfilling their Law Society Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred background as a former practicing Legal Professional.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Professional Resources and/or Professional Development, ideally in a management capacity.
  • Experience in change management and performance management is essential.
  • Strong preference for experience in legal professional recruitment.
  • Proven track record in successfully leading and managing teams.
  • Experience in project management is necessary.
  • Demonstrated internal client focus with a commitment to optimal client service and employee experience.
  • Strategic thinker with agility in engaging various stakeholders, including Partners, to develop and execute plans.
  • Open-minded and receptive to new ideas and suggestions.
  • Ability to articulate goals and expectations clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proactive, adaptable, flexible, and energetic in approach.
  • Willingness to experiment with new ideas and utilize technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Highly organized with effective time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and adjust tasks as workloads change.
  • Capability to analyze data, including visualization tools, and present information to support strategic recommendations.
  • Enjoys working independently on quick turnaround projects, as well as collaborating with a larger team to develop strategies and agile solutions.
  • Possesses strong emotional intelligence to inspire, engage, and empower others.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism, discretion, tact, and maturity in all interactions.
  • Comfortable working as part of a national team and willing to travel occasionally to foster and build relationships.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: $190,000 - $210,000 Annually
