Position Overview:

Our Vancouver office is seeking a Director of Professional Resources, who will report directly to the Chief Professional Resources Officer. This role involves supporting all professional resources functions within the regional office. The Director will collaborate with the Professional Resources team and other Operations teams to enhance alignment and synergies in recruitment initiatives, programming, and talent management.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Recruitment Program

  • Oversee and direct the firm's student recruitment initiatives for the regional office, including outreach and promotion with law schools, as well as managing all formalized recruitment processes such as resume assessments and interviews.
  • Coordinate orientation programs for articling and summer students, which includes developing schedules and materials and assigning mentors.
  • Support regional summer and articling students to enhance their experience at the firm, including onboarding, orientation, training, mentorship, social events, work allocation, performance evaluations, coaching, and career development guidance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with universities, law schools, and other career development programs to bolster the firm's student recruitment and training efforts.
  • Oversee sponsorships and internships while enhancing the firm's profile and engagement at law schools.
  • Draft offer letters and maintain accurate employment files for articling and summer students.
  • Administer performance evaluation processes for students, including tracking completion of assignments and performance reviews.
  • Manage the budget related to student recruitment, tuition, and associated fees.

Associate Recruitment Program

  • Assist the Chief Professional Resources Officer with lateral recruitment activities, including resume evaluations, interviews, and candidate outreach.
  • Prepare offer letters and maintain updated associate employment records.
  • Support associates through onboarding, orientation, mentorship programs, social events, work allocation, engagement and retention strategies, performance evaluations, and coaching.
  • Manage associate departures, conduct exit interviews, and facilitate alumni connections.
  • Collaborate on national professional resources projects, ensuring regional perspectives are integrated into development and implementation.

Lawyer Learning and Development

  • Assist the Director of Learning & Development with region-specific training and development content.
  • Support provincially-called lawyers in tracking and fulfilling their Law Society Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred background as a practicing Legal Professional.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Professional Resources and/or Professional Development, ideally in a management capacity.
  • Experience in change management and performance management is essential.
  • Strong preference for experience in legal professional recruitment.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing teams effectively.
  • Project management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated client focus with a commitment to optimal service and employee experience.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders in developing and executing plans.
  • Open-minded and receptive to innovative ideas and suggestions.
  • Ability to articulate goals and expectations clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and energetic in approach.
  • Enjoys experimenting with new ideas and utilizes technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage time effectively, including prioritizing tasks as workloads change.
  • Skilled in data analysis and visualization, with the ability to present information to support strategic recommendations.
  • Capable of working independently on urgent projects and collaboratively as part of a larger team.
  • Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to inspire and empower others.
  • Professional demeanor with a high level of discretion and maturity.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to foster relationships within a national team.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Compensation: $190,000 - $210,000 Annually
