The Extern Mentor Coordinator (EMC) is integral to the successful integration of externs into the clinical environment, adhering to the established organizational protocols. This role encompasses providing structured support, facilitating an understanding of professional responsibilities, and ensuring optimal patient care standards. Additionally, the EMC is responsible for the execution and assessment of the externship program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the onboarding process for externs
  • Conducting orientation sessions and providing educational materials
  • Assisting with extern scheduling and departmental placements
  • Evaluating and monitoring the performance of externs
  • Offering mentorship, educational guidance, and opportunities for professional growth
  • Acting as a communication bridge between unit leadership and operational teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Healthcare Professional in good standing with relevant associations
  • 2-3 years of experience in acute care settings
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong attendance record
  • Exceptional clinical and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Experience in educational roles or preceptorship
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and infection control measures
