Laboratory Facilitator, Veterinary Technology

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in veterinary technology and excellent instructional skills. As a Laboratory Facilitator, you will be responsible for providing high-quality laboratory instruction and supervision to students in the Veterinary Technology program.
Key Responsibilities- Instruction and Supervision
- Provide laboratory instruction and demonstration related to VTEC courses, subject to the curricula approval of VTEC faculty.
- Supervise students in the laboratory, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and VTEC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Support students in practice of essential skills during and outside of regularly scheduled laboratory times.
- Evaluation and Feedback
- Evaluate student work and performance in relation to laboratory requirements.
- Provide verbal and written feedback on the performance of students in the lab in relation to essential skill requirements of courses.
- Preparation and Maintenance
- Prepare materials for use in the laboratory, subject to the curricula approval of the VTEC faculty.
- Maintain and update laboratory equipment and demonstrations.
- Ensure equipment is in good working order and perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance according to manufacturers' recommendations.
- A Diploma in Animal Health/Veterinary Technology from a CVMA/AVMA accredited Animal Health/Veterinary Technology Program combined with a passing grade on the Veterinarian Technician's National Examination (VTNE) and ongoing membership in the British Columbia Veterinary Technologists Association.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a veterinary medical facility.
- Excellent working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of a veterinary facility, including laboratory, surgical, radiology and anesthetic equipment and apparatus together with a good working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of a veterinary facility including WHMIS and GHS.
- Demonstrated experience speaking to groups and preparing written materials for lab assignments.
- Good working knowledge of the English language (written and verbal).
