Job Summary

Durham College is seeking experienced and motivated professionals who share our commitment to quality and student success. The Faculty of Liberal Studies requires part-time professors to teach degree breadth courses in a variety of disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development: Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and experiences.
  • Utilize Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles: Actively engage students in the learning process by incorporating UDL principles.
  • Embedding Educational Technologies: Effectively utilize educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning.
  • Course and Program Curriculum: Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work independently and demonstrate initiative, and work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Education: A relevant PhD is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience is required. Experience with online teaching and course development is considered an asset.
  • Teaching Experience: Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of UDL and current assessment methodologies is required.
  • Industry-Led or Community-Based Applied Research: Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  • Commitment to Student Experience: A demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first is required.
  • Current Technologies: Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades is required.
  • Life-Long Learning: A proven track record of life-long learning is required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders, is required.
  • Ontario College System: Understanding of the Ontario college system is required.
