About the Role

Durham College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our Faculty of Liberal Studies as a part-time professor. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Communications courses in-person at our Oshawa or Whitby campus.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Teaching and Curriculum Development: Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.
  2. Utilizing Educational Technologies: Effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses.
  3. Assessment and Evaluation: Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning, ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.
  4. Student Engagement and Support: Work independently and demonstrate initiative, while working effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  1. A relevant Master's degree (relevant PhD is an asset). A professional designation is an asset.
  2. A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
  3. Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and current assessment methodologies.
  4. Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to putting the student experience first.
  6. Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
  7. Proven track record of life-long learning.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Understanding of the Ontario college system.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. TESOL Certification and experience working with English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners is an asset.
  2. Experience teaching Communications courses is an asset.
