Part-Time Communications Instructor

Durham College is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to contribute to our commitment to quality education and student success. The Faculty of Liberal Studies requires a part-time professor to deliver engaging in-person Communications Courses at either the Oshawa or Whitby campus.

This ongoing posting allows for future teaching opportunities as they arise.

As a successful candidate, you will primarily focus on delivering Communication Foundations courses. These courses equip students with essential skills and competencies to communicate effectively in diverse contexts within their chosen field of study. Topics may include communication theories, techniques, interpersonal relationship models, group dynamics, public speaking, and intercultural environments.

Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a positive learning environment that embraces the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles of all students.
  • Implement adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Effectively utilize educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses.
  • Develop curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning effectively.
  • Ensure that course and program curriculum remains current and relevant to industry standards.
  • Demonstrate initiative and work independently while collaborating effectively with students, the program team, and various stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • A relevant Master's degree (a relevant PhD is an asset). A professional designation is beneficial.
  • A minimum of five years of recent and relevant work experience within the past three years.
  • Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and current assessment methodologies. TESOL Certification and experience working with EAL learners is an asset.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is highly valued.
  • A strong commitment to prioritizing the student experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  • A proven track record of continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.
