Position Overview

Support Specialists play a crucial role in delivering assistance and guidance through effective interaction, life skills coaching, fostering social abilities, and helping individuals reach their personal aspirations through a tailored, person-centered methodology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes a holistic approach to deliver a range of services tailored to each individual's distinct needs, communication style, and objectives to enhance their autonomy and enrich their quality of life;
  • Acts as an advocate for individuals, ensuring their unique needs and goals are prioritized;
  • Exhibits professionalism in interactions with colleagues, family members, and within the community;
  • Employs various communication methods as necessary to facilitate effective information exchange (e.g., ASL, SEE, LSQ);
  • Adheres to all medical protocols and procedures as directed by healthcare professionals and maintains accurate documentation;
  • Embraces the philosophy of 'supporting with, not doing for'; assists individuals in realizing their full potential;
  • Prepares and/or aids in meal preparation and promotes healthy dietary choices based on specific nutritional needs;
  • Implements behavioral strategies as directed by behavioral specialists, including monitoring and reporting;
  • Provides personal care as needed (e.g., lifts and transfers, toileting, personal hygiene);
  • Assists individuals in managing personal finances, budgeting, and keeping financial records up to date;
  • Aligns with the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals, delivering the highest standard of service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-year post-secondary education;
  • Up to one year of relevant work experience;
  • Willingness to engage in training to develop specialized skills and knowledge in sensory loss;
  • A valid G Driver's License is advantageous.
