Vocational Support Specialist
  • Salary: Per Collective Agreement (MGEU Local 142) (Under Review)
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 9:00 am to 3:30 pm; 30 minutes paid lunch; 60 hours biweekly

Position Overview:

The Vocational Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing various elements of a participant's employment plan, aimed at developing skills necessary for securing and sustaining integrated work experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage a diverse caseload of program participants.
  2. Coordinate meetings with participants and liaise with their support networks.
  3. Ensure effective communication with the program coordinator to maintain high satisfaction levels through exceptional service.
  4. Utilize Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Calendar, Word, and Excel proficiently.
  5. Gather and organize all necessary documentation, including reports and participant-specific information for planning, and submit monthly updates.
  6. Act as a role model for participants in community business environments.
  7. Research occupational information relevant to program participants.
  8. Systematically introduce job tasks to participants.
  9. Facilitate volunteer opportunities to improve participants' job readiness.
  10. Assess participants' work performance skills to aid in establishing realistic vocational objectives.
  11. Identify and arrange for assistive devices and equipment to enhance participants' job performance.
  12. Provide advocacy support to ensure participants' rights are upheld in the workplace.
  13. Develop training materials for classroom instruction in alignment with vocational plans, and make necessary adjustments to ensure effective job performance and work behaviors.
  14. Participate in meetings and training sessions.
  15. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary education or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
  2. Experience in administering and executing vocational assessments.
  3. Knowledge of available programs and services through various government levels.
  4. Familiarity with the local job market and community resources.
  5. Extensive understanding of various disabilities and their implications for employment.
  6. Knowledge of The Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability Act.
  7. Understanding of adult learning principles and the needs of individuals with disabilities.
  8. Strong leadership, crisis intervention, and problem-solving abilities.
  9. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  10. Knowledge of first aid, health and safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
  11. Clear Criminal Record Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  12. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.
