Business Analyst Responsibilities

Our client is undergoing a significant transformation, migrating to a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system under the Enterprise Commons program. This presents an opportunity to invest in a strategic solution that will break down silos, adopt data management best practices, and expand cloud data and analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning:
    • Identify gaps between the current and future states, outlining strategies to enable the business to achieve its desired future state.
  • Requirements Management:
    • Perform business requirement elicitation, analysis, validation, and documentation for technology-related business initiatives.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to conduct investigations for strategy studies, business requirements specification, and the transition to and testing of business solutions.
    • Perform stakeholder analysis to ensure an appropriate engagement and communications plan is in place for each group of stakeholders.
  • Conceptual/Functional Design:
    • Translate business needs, processes, and requirements for technical resources, ensuring the solution meets business needs.
    • Understand the data and technology landscape, including databases, data warehouses, application lifecycle management solutions, security, identity, and access management solutions, data governance solutions, external, line-of-business, and enterprise applications, reporting tools, etc.
  • Test and Defect Management:
    • Facilitate test cycles and manage defect resolution with the technical team and/or vendors.
    • Lead the business in User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect identification and reporting, and defect resolution.
    • Secure business acceptance of the solution to enable implementation in a production environment.
    • Provide support and warranty defect support after go-live as required.
  • Agile/Waterfall Business Analysis:
    • Document user stories and associated acceptance criteria.
    • Evaluate, prioritize, and balance competing user requirements.
    • Refine backlog items in preparation for development.
    • Support product owners in making informed decisions on product evolution.

Business Analyst Mandatory Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in core business analysis functions, including stakeholder analysis, process mapping, conducting workshops, requirements management and prioritization, documentation, and defect management.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality management, including systems testing and user acceptance testing facilitation.
  • Certification in business analysis (e.g., CBAP Certification from the International Institute of Business Analysis) would be considered an asset.
  • Certification or training in Agile and Scrum would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in validating data, creating processes, and workflow modeling.
  • Ability to build effective working client relationships across all levels of the corporation and with key stakeholders to provide consultation and advice when needed.
  • Highly developed public speaking and communication skills, including oral and written techniques to conduct presentations and facilitate workshops.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, business management, and technical staff).
  • Excellent analytical skills with knowledge of root cause analysis, for critically evaluating and distilling information from multiple sources.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and execute work assignments.
  • Expert knowledge of the Cloud solutions such as Google Cloud and SAP would be an asset.
  • Experience with data migrations.
