Position Overview

As a Registered Practical Nurse within our Nursing Resource Team, you will play a crucial role in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment focused on providing comprehensive services and programs to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care to individuals with addiction issues and various mental health conditions.
  • Adapt to changing patient care requirements in accordance with CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophies, and diverse patient populations.
  • Manage patient assignments and adhere to established care plans.
  • Administer both psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
  • Initiate necessary clinical assessments upon admission and at various intervals, such as Mental Status Exams.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and engage with individual team members as needed.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences.
  • Accept varying work assignments across Elective Psychiatry Services as directed by supervisors or delegates.
Qualifications

  • Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice preferred.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act (MHA), documentation standards (CNO), and privacy legislation (PHIPPA).
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and engage with acutely ill patients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful communication style with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Previous training in mental health nursing, boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is advantageous.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient computer skills and a willingness to learn new systems.
  • Flexibility regarding work schedules.
  • Knowledge of CBT/DBT and experience in group facilitation is a plus.
