As the Nursing Supervisor for After-Hours Operations, you will play a vital role within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive services and programs to our clients. You will provide essential clinical and operational leadership during after-hours, overseeing the management of resources related to patient safety, occupational health, and the efficient delivery of client care. Your responsibilities will include offering clinical guidance, mentoring nursing staff, and serving as a key resource for after-hours frontline personnel.
Part-Time Opportunity
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and evaluate the overall delivery of patient care and nursing activities, ensuring adherence to the nursing model of care.
- Serve as a primary resource for community members and families, addressing clinical emergencies, codes, and infection control matters.
- Monitor critical incidents and manage patient and family feedback effectively.
- Direct the workflow and enhance the productivity and engagement of the nursing team, including staff development, recruitment, scheduling, and performance management.
- Consult on complex clinical decisions regarding patient care, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution while promoting collaboration within the interdisciplinary team.
- Assess nursing practices and ensure the competency of nursing staff in alignment with established standards and regulations.
- Implement and supervise adherence to new policies and procedures affecting team members and patient care.
- Develop nursing standards, policies, and procedures in collaboration with unit leadership.
- Coordinate clinical placements for nursing students and support their educational needs.
- Lead debriefing sessions and follow-up on critical incidents in conjunction with unit leadership.
- Address risk management issues proactively.
- Initiate and execute quality improvement initiatives within the nursing unit.
- Ensure the availability and collection of data related to key quality indicators for analysis.
- Collaborate with unit leadership to prepare budget submissions and manage the approved nursing budget.
- Maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
- Provide education and support to ensure care delivery aligns with best practices.
- Coordinate after-hours responses to crises and emergencies, supporting initial investigations.
- Address client care issues among stakeholders effectively.
- Ensure continuity in management and services, maintaining communication with unit managers and operations leaders.
- Make informed decisions regarding resource utilization across the hospital as needed.
Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Certification in Mental Health Nursing; Canadian CPMHN (C) preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Health Management Diploma or equivalent progressive management education.
- Experience with a diverse range of psychiatric and addiction diagnoses.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions.
- Sound clinical judgment grounded in current practices and client-centered care.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to actively listen, problem-solve, and negotiate effectively.
- Proficient in various computer systems and software applications.
- Experience supervising both unionized and non-unionized staff.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety principles.
- CPR, First Aid, and suicide prevention training; HART training will be provided.
