Position Overview

As an integral member of the Policy Team, you will offer expert technical guidance and strategic leadership in crafting solutions and recommendations pertaining to financial services regulation in Ontario. Your contributions will align with the overarching policy direction and regulatory framework, addressing pertinent legislation, policies, and issues.

The Policy Team encompasses various sectors, including:

  • Auto / Property & Casualty Insurance
  • Life and Health Insurance
  • Mortgage Brokers
  • Financial Planners/Advisors
  • Credit Unions
  • Pensions

We are currently seeking a Senior Policy and Technical Lead specifically in the Credit Union and Insurance Prudential Policy domain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide regulatory thought leadership and technical expertise for the formation of expert working/advisory committees at both provincial and national levels.
  • Spearhead the conceptualization, development, implementation, evaluation, and negotiation of strategies, business plans, and service objectives to propel FSRA's financial services policy agenda and regulatory framework.
  • Serve as a special advisor and technical expert in the development, implementation, and revision of financial services legislation, policies, processes, and performance indicators to enhance the regulation of the financial services sector in Ontario.
  • Deliver authoritative strategic policy advice and technical expertise to the executive leadership team regarding legislative, policy, and regulatory strategies to address current and emerging issues in the financial services sector.

Qualifications

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

  • In-depth understanding of the structures, operations, programs, and products within the financial services sectors, along with a comprehensive grasp of FSRA's mandate as a risk-based integrated financial regulator.
  • Proven expertise in policy development principles, project management, and the interpretation and application of Ontario financial services legislation and relevant regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of socio-economic theory and principled regulatory policy development aimed at achieving harmonized outcomes in an integrated regulatory landscape.

Skills

  • Exceptional leadership abilities to establish and lead expert advisory committees and project teams comprising internal staff and external industry experts.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify and assess a wide range of high-profile industry trends and stakeholder needs requiring policy responses.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills to effectively communicate policy positions and strategic options to executives.
  • Proficient written communication skills for preparing complex analyses, detailed strategies, policy frameworks, and presentation materials.
  • Proven relationship management and consensus-building skills to cultivate and maintain key stakeholder relationships and represent FSRA on inter-jurisdictional committees.
