Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) exemplifies clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), alongside the policies and procedures established by Southlake Regional Health Centre. The RN collaborates effectively as part of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care informed by the three-factor framework as delineated in the CNO standard, which considers the Client, Nurse, and Environment. These elements significantly influence decision-making regarding care-provider assignments and the necessity for interprofessional consultation and collaboration. All nursing professionals are committed to ongoing education and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RN scope of practice, guided by the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Operate in alignment with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
• Ensure practice consistency with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and relevant legislation.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all healthcare team members.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex health conditions.
• Offer consultation and clinical support to colleagues as required.
• Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
• Assist in developing and implementing the Plan of Care, evaluating its effectiveness continuously.
• Mentor and orient new staff members and students within clinical units.
• Serve as a role model, integrating safe and best practices into daily operations to ensure exemplary care delivery.
• Take a leadership role in coordinating patient care within assigned areas.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities when designated.
• Utilize human and material resources effectively.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical pathways.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management or delegate.

Skills & Qualifications

• A minimum of two (2) years of recent nursing experience is preferred.
• Evidence of continuous professional development.

Licensure Requirements

• RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Completion of CC1 or an equivalent course within three (3) months of hire.
• Completion of CC2 or an equivalent course within one (1) year of hire.
• ACLS certification is preferred.
