QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should possess a two-year College Secretarial Diploma or equivalent qualification. Proficiency in PC software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, along with strong organizational and clerical skills to assist educators and learners in the library environment. Knowledge of and experience with automated library systems is desirable. Proficiency in the French language (both verbal and written) is an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate closely with staff and under the guidance of the principal to curate books and resources that align with the educational needs of the institution and enrich academic programs. Develop and manage vertical files for easy access to information. Demonstrate familiarity with the Dewey Decimal System and electronic cataloging methods. Ensure the filing system for educational resources is current and reflects the evolving collection. Provide support to students, educators, and parents in research methodologies, utilizing computer programs, CD ROMs, the Internet, and library databases. Handle cataloged and classified materials, which may include affixing labels and organizing books on shelves. Organize and maintain card files within Shelf List Drawers. Oversee the upkeep of the collection, including repairing books, shelf reading, and updating borrower’s cards and labels. Guide and supervise volunteers, including parents and students, in library tasks such as shelving and circulation. Assist with circulation operations, including checking in and out materials, and tracking overdue items. Participate in the annual inventory of library resources and assist in the evaluation of collections. Contribute to the aesthetic appeal of the library through displays and bulletin boards. Support educators during book fairs and related events. Maintain a catalog of publishers' materials. Request necessary office supplies and aid in preparing the annual library supply order list. Utilize automated library systems for resource management and circulation tasks. Provide guidance to library patrons regarding usage policies and procedures. Accept and process donated materials, forwarding them for necessary approvals. Assist in the removal of outdated or unsuitable resources from the library collection. Perform additional clerical tasks as assigned by the principal.

HOURS OF WORK:

31 hours per week – between the hours of 7:30 to 5:00
