Your Role:

In this pivotal position, you will spearhead our government relations efforts alongside the CEO, serving as a trusted policy advisor to member organizations and government entities at all levels across Canada's major urban centers.

This is a full-time, permanent role reporting directly to the CEO.

With your strong interest in politics and public policy, coupled with your understanding of the commercial real estate landscape, your mission will be to shape public policy, educate stakeholders about the commercial real estate sector's economic impact, and promote stable and advantageous real estate markets in Canada through collaborative policy initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with executive members and relevant staff to identify key issues across various asset classes and government levels.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Identify and formulate policy positions pertinent to the commercial real estate sector in collaboration with the executive team.
  • Monitor political and policy developments, communicating insights and recommendations to stakeholders through reports and presentations.
  • Conduct research on legislation and policy documents to assess potential impacts on the industry.
  • Prepare briefings on new regulations affecting commercial real estate.
  • Advise the CEO on government relations strategies and provide regular updates.
  • Manage the Government Relations, Policy & Research team and oversee internship programs.
  • Ensure compliance with lobbying regulations and maintain accurate registration records.
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization in media interactions.
  • Collaborate with the marketing communications team to ensure consistent messaging on policy issues.
  • Assist with various projects and initiatives beyond government relations, fostering positive interactions with members and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in political science, law, business, or real estate.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in an association or similar environment.
  • Proactive leader with strong strategic and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to identify and research significant policy issues effectively.
  • In-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Proven track record of influencing policy decisions.
  • Familiarity with public policy at various governmental levels.
  • Excellent research, writing, and project management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new management tools.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
