Job Overview: Privacy Advisor

This role reports to the Manager, Information Access and Privacy, and is responsible for supporting the University's compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

The Privacy Advisor will coordinate Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), provide advice on data protection and compliance, and respond to access to information requests. This role requires regular exposure to sensitive and confidential information, including records and information related to legal university matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) to identify and mitigate potential risks to personal information
  • Provide expert advice on data protection and compliance with FIPPA and other relevant legislation
  • Respond to access to information requests and coordinate the release of sensitive information
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines related to data protection and compliance
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with FIPPA and other relevant legislation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as law, information technology, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of recent, relevant experience working in a similar role or in a legal/regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FIPPA and other relevant legislation, including administrative requirements and processes
  • Experience coordinating, reviewing, and advising on PIAs and access to information requests
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
