Join the Movement from Water to Wire

The Electrical Project Lead is accountable for overseeing all electrical installation operations on-site. This role involves planning, coordinating, and directing the electrical aspects of the project. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Electrical Project Lead will manage a team of supervisors and electricians. The electrical components of a hydroelectric power project encompass turbine and generator (T&G) instrumentation, protection and control systems, and distribution equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

During the Preparation and Planning Phase – Office Duties:

  1. Analyze and comprehend the design and installation scope of work;
  2. Develop the electrical installation strategy:
    1. Finalize man-hour estimates;
    2. Validate and prepare material quantities;
    3. Establish the schedule for the electrical installation;
    4. Review and adjust the budget estimate as necessary;
  3. Assist in the preparation of installation manuals and related documentation;
  4. Optimize the electrical site staffing requirements (supervision and labor);
  5. Compile tooling lists and coordinate procurement;
  6. Draft purchase specifications and negotiate with subcontractors in collaboration with the Installation Coordinator and Procurement;
  7. Plan and organize temporary/construction power mobilization;
  8. Engage in risk assessments.

During the Execution Phase – On-Site Duties:

  1. Ensure the safe and cost-effective execution of electrical installation tasks in line with the project schedule and quality standards;
  2. Lead the electrical supervisors on-site;
  3. Prepare estimates for site change orders;
  4. Manage schedule updates, short-term planning, and progress reporting for the electrical scope;
  5. Analyze electrical installation costs and progress, including deviations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Experience on Canadian construction unionized sites, medium to large scale, holding leadership roles in electrical or general contracting for industrial electrical installations;
  2. Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in a similar capacity;
  3. Demonstrated leadership ability within a team environment;
  4. Thorough understanding of electrical equipment;
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian electrical code CSA C22.1;
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in French is an asset;
  7. Knowledge of hydroelectric projects is advantageous;
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork capabilities, and autonomy;
  9. Adept at multitasking and managing various projects with tight deadlines;
  10. Strong customer service orientation.
