Position Overview

The primary role of the Practical Nurse Specialist is to support healthcare professionals by preparing examination areas, gathering patient histories, and executing medical procedures such as suturing and biopsies as instructed. This position is vital in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and a positive experience during their visits.

Key Responsibilities

The Practical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Addressing dermatological conditions including acne, eczema, and skin infections.
  • Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms and progress.
  • Conducting basic medical and cosmetic procedures while educating patients on self-care and health management.
  • Ensuring the proper sterilization of medical equipment between patient visits.
  • Completing required training for medical device reprocessing and participating in audits.
  • Providing confidential counseling to patients regarding procedures and treatments.
  • Possessing extensive product knowledge to guide clients on post-visit care.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks related to patient records and billing.
  • Receiving training in advanced procedures before performing them.
  • Collaborating with dermatologists in surgical procedures.
  • Managing an average patient load efficiently.
  • Adhering to clinic protocols to prevent errors.
  • Communicating effectively with the nursing team to maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Participating in ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of treatment areas.
  • Ensuring accurate medical inventory management.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the relevant provincial licensing authority.
  • Active CPR certification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in dermatology is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical software systems is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
