About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) - Palliative Care Consult Service is a key position within Alberta Health Services (AHS) that provides advanced nursing practice to maximize the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge, and skills in meeting the complex healthcare needs of individuals, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert nursing consultation for palliative and end-of-life care for in-patients living in the Calgary Zone.
  • Collaborate with leadership and attending teams in all locations of care to build and maintain palliative and end-of-life care competencies.
  • Lead teams of multiple stakeholders to solve system or care challenges through quality improvement (QI), evaluation, and research activities.
  • Facilitate the implementation of solutions to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • Balance various roles depending on the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience as an advanced practice palliative nurse in a consultant role.
  • Trained and experienced in Connect Care CNA - Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Nursing certified (CHPCN).
  • Completion of the ACP/GCD Course.
  • Completion of the Serious Illness Conversation Workshop.
  • Completion of the How to Care, What to Say Workshop.
  • Completion of Pallium LEAP training.
