Headquartered in British Columbia, we specialize in a wide array of services including paving, concrete work, milling, reclaiming, and recycling, alongside complex bridge construction and cutting-edge concrete solutions. Program Goals

The primary aim of our co-op initiative is to nurture high-potential candidates in civil engineering, guiding them towards successful careers post-graduation. Participants will gain invaluable hands-on experience, bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. Our program is particularly focused on providing substantial fieldwork exposure, essential for aspiring civil engineers.

Candidate Profile

We seek individuals who exhibit a positive mindset and a readiness to embrace new challenges in both field and office environments. Ideal candidates are problem solvers with an inquisitive nature, eager to collaborate with a team of esteemed professionals. This role offers a diverse range of projects, fostering skill development and career progression within a supportive company culture.

Key Responsibilities

As a Co-op Student, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting the Foreman:

  • Conducting site safety orientations
  • Engaging actively with the crew on-site
  • Organizing daily tasks
  • Maintaining daily records and journals
  • Assisting with scheduling and documentation
  • Participating in layout and surveying activities
  • Providing support to the foreman

Collaborating with the Estimating Team:

  • Performing drawings take-offs
  • Drafting Requests for Information
  • Measuring and tracking quantities
  • Preparing progress estimates
  • Reviewing contract and subcontract agreements

Shadowing Senior Staff:

  • Assisting with traffic management plans
  • Contributing to non-conformance reports
  • Updating project schedules
  • Reviewing costs and budgets
  • Participating in site meetings
  • Facilitating daily project communications
  • Consolidating extra work orders

Skills Development

Throughout your co-op experience, you will enhance your:

  • Understanding of road construction and associated activities
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Plans and testing requirements
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Familiarity with BlueBeam, AutoCAD, and related software
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control training
  • Estimating and quantity tracking abilities

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should aspire to meet the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering degree program
  • A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field is preferred
  • Previous experience in civil engineering is advantageous
  • Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills
  • Familiarity with roadway construction specifications and requirements
  • PMP designation and Gold Seal Certification are beneficial
