Role Summary:

As the Director of Mobile Robot Technology, you will be instrumental in defining the trajectory of autonomous mobile robotics. Your role will involve advancing our research initiatives and fostering collaboration with academic institutions. You will lead a talented team and enhance our technological capabilities, working alongside peers across various business units to explore transformative robotics solutions. Key areas of focus will include navigation, planning, perception, mapping, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative AI, applicable to both single and multi-robot systems. This position offers a unique chance to influence the future of robotics and drive innovation in a rapidly evolving sector.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and oversee the execution of mobile robot research and development programs.
  • Recruit and manage a specialized R&D team, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Build partnerships with academic institutions for technology transfer, dataset sharing, and collaborative publications.
  • Position Clearpath Robotics as a leader in technology through patents, publications, open-source contributions, and public engagements.
  • Stay informed about relevant technologies impacting autonomous mobile robotics, including historical and emerging trends.
  • Engage in personal prototyping and exploration of significant topics in the field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing research programs with varying levels of risk, technology readiness, timelines, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated leadership in both successful and challenging research initiatives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of navigation, planning, perception, mapping, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and related topics in autonomous robotics.
  • Familiarity with key hardware technologies related to sensing, computation, communication, and actuation.
  • Expertise in one or more of the aforementioned fields, with multiple publications in reputable journals or conferences.
  • Understanding of software development and testing methodologies.
  • Experience in public representation of your work or organization.
  • Hands-on experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining software for real-world robotic applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python, with knowledge of additional languages being advantageous.
  • Experience with key libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Ceres, or OMPL.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as ROS1, ROS 2, Gazebo, and CUDA.
  • Strong skills in experimental analysis and benchmarking.
