Role Description:

As the Director of Mobile Robot Technology, you will be instrumental in defining the trajectory of autonomous mobile robotics. Our organization has been at the forefront of research and development, and we are now eager to deepen our collaborations with academic institutions. Your leadership will be crucial in advancing our technology and team capabilities. You will collaborate with colleagues across various business units to explore transformative opportunities in robotics. Key areas of focus will include navigation, planning, perception, mapping, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative AI, encompassing both single-robot and multi-robot systems. This position presents a unique chance to influence the future of mobile robotics and foster innovation in a rapidly evolving industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and oversee the execution of mobile robot research and development initiatives.
  • Lead the recruitment and management of specialized R&D personnel, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
  • Cultivate partnerships with academic institutions for technology transfer, dataset development, and collaborative publications.
  • Ensure Clearpath Robotics maintains a prominent position as a technology innovator, including contributions to patents, publications, and open-source projects.
  • Stay informed about relevant technologies applicable to autonomous mobile robotics, including historical and emerging trends.
  • Engage in personal prototyping and exploration of significant topics of interest.

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience managing research programs with diverse risk profiles, technology readiness levels, timelines, and budgets.
  • Demonstrated leadership in both successful and challenging research initiatives.
  • Broad knowledge of navigation, planning, perception, mapping, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative AI as they relate to autonomous robotics.
  • Familiarity with essential hardware technologies encompassing sensing, computation, communication, and actuation.
  • Specific expertise in one or more of the aforementioned fields, with multiple publications in reputable journals or conferences.
  • Experience with software development methodologies and tools.
  • Proven ability to represent your work or organization in public forums.
  • Hands-on experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining software for robots in real-world applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python, with knowledge of additional languages (e.g., Lua, Rust) being advantageous.
  • Reasonable experience with key libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Ceres, or OMPL.
  • Demonstrated experience with ROS1, ROS 2, Gazebo, CUDA, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Strong skills in experimental analysis and benchmarking.
