Lead Structural Engineer for Transportation Projects

The Horizontal Infrastructure (HI) Business Unit at Morrison Hershfield has successfully executed some of the most significant infrastructure projects in Canada. We are dedicated to providing superior quality and meeting the unique needs of our clients. Our team, composed of Planners, Engineers, and Contract Administrators, is committed to delivering infrastructure solutions that promote economic growth and social well-being.
Our national HI group is made up of skilled engineers, technicians, and support staff with diverse backgrounds in design and construction. We are committed to providing outstanding technical work and customer service, which has earned us an excellent reputation for successfully delivering multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as project manager, structural lead, and designer for engineering assignments.
- Conduct site visits for pre-design information gathering, construction oversight, and post-construction evaluations.
- Coordinate efforts with clients and other disciplines, including highway/road, electrical, drainage, and environmental planning.
- Analyze and evaluate design solutions for transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations.
- Provide guidance to project team members and support staff through clear verbal and written instructions.
- Oversee the CAD team in preparing drawings and reviewing deliverables before submission to clients.
- Engage in business development activities to secure new projects through client engagement and proposal preparation.
- Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates.
- Conduct tender evaluations and/or provide construction engineering services.
- Manage project budgets and schedules effectively.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff in project-related tasks.
Qualifications:
- B.ASc. or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus and experience in bridge engineering.
- P.Eng. designation with over 10 years of experience leading large transportation structure projects.
- Willingness to work in both office and field environments.
- Proven experience in project management.
- Ability to perform outdoor physical duties during bridge inspections.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in SAP2000, CSiBridge, and SFRAME.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation abilities.
- Able to work collaboratively in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multidisciplinary projects.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct, and mentor junior staff.
- Interest in business development activities and proposal preparation.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to lead a team and foster the technical development of others.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
