The Horizontal Infrastructure (HI) Business Unit at Morrison Hershfield has successfully developed some of the most significant infrastructure projects in the Canadian market. We are committed to delivering outstanding quality and meeting our clients' diverse needs. Our team, consisting of Planners, Engineers, and Contract Administrators, provides infrastructure solutions that promote economic growth and social well-being.

Our group is dedicated to ensuring a positive customer experience throughout Canada, from project inception and design development to construction completion. The national HI team comprises engineers, technicians, and support personnel with varied backgrounds in design and construction, all focused on delivering excellent technical work and customer service. This team has built an exceptional reputation through the successful execution of multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as project manager, structural lead, and designer for engineering assignments.
  • Conduct site visits for pre-design information gathering, construction oversight, and post-construction evaluations.
  • Coordinate efforts with clients and other disciplines, including highway/road, electrical, drainage, and environmental planning.
  • Analyze and evaluate design solutions for transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and foundations.
  • Provide guidance to project team members and support staff through clear verbal and written instructions.
  • Oversee CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to client submission.
  • Engage in business development activities to secure new projects through client liaison and proposal preparation.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct tender evaluations and/or provide construction engineering services.
  • Adhere to assigned project budgets and schedules.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff in project-related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • B.ASc. or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus on bridge engineering.
  • P.Eng. designation with over 10 years of experience leading large transportation structure projects.
  • Willingness to work in both office and field environments.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical duties, including bridge inspections.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with SAP2000, CSiBridge, and SFRAME.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Able to thrive in a team environment and excel in both bridge and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrated capability to supervise, direct, and mentor junior staff.
  • Interest in business development activities and proposal preparation.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to lead a team and mentor the technical development of others.
  • Works effectively with minimal supervision.
