Preferred Education and Experience: CGRN certification is preferred. Must secure ACLS certification within three months of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct patient care activities; tailor perioperative support and assist with patient positioning to fulfill the requirements of both the patient and the surgeon.

Facilitate proper patient positioning by safeguarding nerve and bony areas, ensuring body alignment to promote vascular circulation and unobstructed respiratory function while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Ensure the surgical suite is physically prepared, including cleaning, stocking, and replenishing supplies. Open sterile supplies onto the sterile field utilizing aseptic techniques. Safeguard the integrity of the sterile field and implement corrective actions as necessary. Adhere to Surgery Center protocols and manufacturer guidelines for the use, processing, and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Verify equipment is in safe working order and effectively cleaned prior to use. Remove defective instruments and equipment from service and document the specific nature of the issue.

Prepare the sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, electrosurgical equipment, suction devices, prosthetics, and solutions required for each procedure in accordance with Center standards.

Scrub, gown, and glove according to established Center policies. Conduct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulator as per Center policy. Gown and glove operating room team members and drape the field. Identify all specimens and adhere to special instructions from the surgeon. Prepare surgical incisions and apply post-operative dressings per surgeon preference. Assist in the transportation of patients.

Contribute to maintaining current surgeon preference cards by reporting necessary changes to the circulating nurse and verifying cards at the conclusion of cases to ensure updates are complete.

Prepare instruments for return to the processing department for decontamination and sterilization. Participate as a member of the operating room team to facilitate room turnover.

Perform Operating Room Duties/Responsibilities; Apply fundamental knowledge of all solutions and medications utilized during surgical procedures in accordance with Operating Room Standards. Maintain an adequate supply of sponges, fluids, sutures, and other materials for use during procedures.

Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon, hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon during operations.

Employ dexterity and efficiency in passing surgical instruments. Maintain a tidy and organized sterile field. Discuss the sequence of specific surgical procedures with the operating room team using appropriate medical terminology. Function as a team member during high-pressure and crisis situations. Utilize cost containment principles for the use of supplies.
