Preferred Education and Experience: CGRN certification is preferred. Must secure ACLS certification within three months of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct patient care activities; tailor perioperative support and assist with patient positioning to fulfill the requirements of both the patient and the surgeon.

Facilitate the proper positioning of patients by safeguarding nerve and bony areas, maintaining body alignment to promote vascular circulation and unobstructed respiratory function, while ensuring the patient's privacy.

Ensure the surgical suite is physically prepared, including cleaning, stocking, and replenishing supplies. Open sterile supplies onto the sterile field using aseptic techniques. Safeguard the integrity of the sterile field and initiate corrective actions as necessary. Adhere to Surgery Center protocols and manufacturer guidelines for the use, processing, and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Verify equipment is in safe working order and effectively cleaned prior to use. Remove defective instruments and equipment from service and document the specific nature of the issue.

Assemble the sterile table with instruments, sutures, blades, electrosurgical devices, suction apparatus, prosthetics, and solutions required for each procedure according to Center standards.

Scrub, gown, and glove according to established Center policies. Count sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulator in accordance with Center policies. Gown and glove operating room team members and drape the field. Identify all specimens and adhere to special instructions from the surgeon. Prepare the surgical incision and apply post-operative dressings per surgeon preferences. Assist with patient transport.

Contribute to maintaining the surgeon's preference cards by reporting necessary changes to the circulating nurse and verifying cards at the conclusion of each case to ensure updates are complete.

Prepare instruments for return to the processing department for decontamination and sterilization. Participate as a member of the operating room team to facilitate room turnover.

Perform O.R. Duties/Responsibilities; Apply foundational knowledge of all solutions and medications utilized during surgical procedures in alignment with O.R. standards. Maintain an adequate supply of sponges, fluids, sutures, and other materials for use during procedures.

Hand instruments and supplies to the surgeon, hold retractors, cut sutures, and execute other tasks as directed by the surgeon during operations.

Utilize dexterity and efficiency in passing surgical instruments. Maintain a tidy and organized sterile field. Discuss the sequence of specific surgical procedures with the operating room team using appropriate medical terminology. Function as a team member during high-pressure and crisis situations. Employ cost containment principles in the use of supplies.
