Role Overview

Leading a team of Investment Associates and Analysts, you will assess the creditworthiness of businesses at various stages and collaborate with a team of recovery specialists to develop solutions for clients facing financial challenges. Your contributions will be vital in shaping our lending policies and comprehensive processes. In this capacity, you will make critical decisions that support the funding of numerous growing SMEs, which are essential to the global economy. Our loan portfolio is set for rapid expansion, and you will have the chance to work closely with teams across the organization to enhance and automate our underwriting processes, ensuring we maintain this growth trajectory. You will be part of a compact team and will report directly to the Investment Director, who will provide the necessary support and resources for you to influence the role and broader function.

Responsibilities

We seek a lending authority to support the ongoing growth of the business by evaluating credit applications in line with our policy guidelines and risk appetite. The Lead Investment Strategist will:

  • Make prompt and informed decisions alongside Analysts and Associates within individual mandates by meticulously reviewing credit applications and structuring terms for eligible products.
  • Provide recommendations to the Credit Committee for decisions that exceed their individual mandates.
  • Enhance our competitive edge by refining our underwriting criteria for both existing and new product offerings.
  • Ensure the sustained performance of the loan portfolio through regular risk evaluations and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Technology teams to continuously enhance and automate the end-to-end application process.
  • Oversee the portfolio and work closely with collections and recovery teams to ensure appropriate decisions are made for clients who are delinquent or facing financial difficulties.

Requirements

Who you are

This position is ideal for an individual with a background in SME lending, challenger banks, Venture Debt, or other innovative FinTechs. A passion for our products and an understanding of how we are transforming the funding landscape for startups will be a significant advantage. We are looking for someone with:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Commercial/SME Underwriting team lead or as an Investment Manager.
  • Practical experience in conducting financial due diligence on large-scale business investment/lending opportunities (£1m+).
  • Strong quantitative and financial modeling capabilities in developing and maintaining complex financial models.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a commitment to continuous process enhancement.
  • Critical thinking and a willingness to challenge conventional approaches to problem-solving.
  • A collaborative team player who is comfortable working with others to resolve issues and drive progress.
  • Experience in recovery/collections is a plus.
