Provincial Technology Education Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Provincial Technology Education Officer to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Education, Innovation, Programs and Services Branch, you will play a critical role in supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, guidelines, programming, and services related to technology education and skilled trades in Nova Scotia public schools.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development and implementation of technology education curricula for grades 7-12, including Technology Education 7-9, Construction Technology 10 & 12, Exploring Technology 10, Communications Technology 11 & 12, Design 11, Electrotechnologies 11, Energy, Power & Transportation 11, Production Technology 11 & 12, Audio Recording and Production 12, Film and Video Production 12, and Multimedia 12.
- Liaise with Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and le Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) to provide expertise on technology education and skilled trades, including dust collection systems, hot work, training for production lab equipment, and safety protocols.
- Support the implementation of the High Skills Major (HSM) Program in pilot schools and the Personal Development Credit (PDC) application process.
- Investigate and strengthen post-secondary options for technology education and skilled trades teacher training.
- Assist with career readiness and resource development, as well as the expansion of community-based learning opportunities and partnerships in areas related to subject specialization.
- Certificate of Technology Education (NSAC) with a Bachelor of Education; a Bachelor of Education with teachable in Technology Education; or Diploma in Technology Education and a Master of Education degree or equivalent.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience teaching in a wood production lab and experience with the operation and maintenance of dust collection systems (DCS).
- Extensive knowledge of the Nova Scotia Technology Education curriculum and the importance of trades-related learning.
- Strong decision-making and leadership skills, as well as outstanding verbal, written, communication, research, and presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, community partners/members, and colleagues.
