Pembina Pipeline Corporation is seeking a Senior Process Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team in Calgary. This role is integral to our Safety Unit, reporting directly to the Director of Process Safety.

The Senior Process Safety Specialist will be tasked with the development, implementation, and support of Pembina's Process Safety Management (PSM) program, aimed at safeguarding the health and safety of personnel across various assets, including plants, pipelines, and terminals. This position demands extensive expertise in industrial processes, regulatory frameworks, and best practices, such as OSHA, CCPS Risk Based Process Safety, CSA Z767, and IEC 61511, to effectively mitigate risks and enhance workplace safety. Candidates with familiarity in ABSA, ASME, CSA, NFPA, and API codes and standards will be given preference.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Champion Pembina's safety culture of Zero by Choice and adhere to the Life Saving Rules.
  • Foster an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
  • Collaborate with corporate and asset teams to develop and enhance the Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
  • Drive organizational change to cultivate a strong process safety culture.
  • Monitor and analyze PSM Key Performance Indicators for timely reporting and actionable insights.
  • Oversee and serve as a super user for the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on major incident investigations to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Disseminate key incident learnings and recommendations across the organization.
  • Facilitate and engage in risk assessment meetings, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and Bow Tie analyses.
  • Support the creation and execution of risk management processes, including Operational Risk Registers.
  • Provide technical and engineering leadership on PSM elements such as MOC, PSSR, and process design.
  • Track process safety metrics, analyze data for trends and outliers, and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Process Safety Management, with a proven track record in supporting Operations and Process Safety engineering.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a corporate-level PSM program across multiple assets and jurisdictions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Process Safety principles, regulations (OSHA, EPA RMP), and best practices (CCPS RBPS, CSA Z767), particularly in the energy pipeline, gas processing, and petrochemical sectors.
  • Experience in enhancing a PSM program within the midstream oil and gas industry is an asset.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP and LOPA, along with a working knowledge of safety instrumented systems and Quantitative Risk Assessments.
  • Strong technical understanding of process safety, natural gas liquids fractionation, process optimization, data analysis, and operational best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess complex scenarios and recommend effective control strategies.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment and convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis, report writing, and presentations.
  • Experience with SAP is considered an asset.
  • CCPS Certified Process Safety Professional certification is a plus.
  • Certification as a Functional Safety Professional (or Expert) from Exida or equivalent is an asset.

This role is based in Calgary, with travel to various work sites anticipated.
