The Finance and Corporate Services Department is looking for a dynamic team member who possesses strong problem-solving skills, exceptional analytical and investigative abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and effective organizational and time-management capabilities. This role requires comfort in working both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

Reporting to the Senior Financial Analyst – Corporate Reporting, this role will involve assisting with the processing, monitoring, reporting, and analysis of donations, grants, and other fundraising initiatives. The primary objective is to uphold the compliance, accuracy, and integrity of financial reporting associated with donations while delivering quality client service to Advancement and other essential areas of NAIT.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Financial Analyst in delivering accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and budgeting services to NAIT's Advancement division.
  • Ensure the precision and completeness of data transitioned from the fundraising system to the financial system, and conduct account reconciliations, including the investigation, analysis, and rectification of discrepancies.
  • Prepare and record journal entries related to donations, grants, and other external funding sources.
  • Monitor donations, grants, and other restricted funds within the financial system, ensuring adherence to donor restrictions and reporting obligations.
  • Generate required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, and assist in compiling any data requested by auditors.
  • Clearly and concisely communicate financial information and insights related to donations to various stakeholders within NAIT.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Support accounting and administrative functions for the NAIT Foundation, one of NAIT's fundraising entities.
  • Engage in ongoing process evaluations and enhancements.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong foundational knowledge and experience in accounting are essential, particularly regarding Canada Revenue Agency guidelines concerning gifts and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) related to grants, funding sources, donations, and deferred revenue.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated individual with keen attention to detail, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with diverse members of the NAIT community.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (experience with pivot tables and other advanced functions is preferred).
  • Familiarity with various software applications (experience with PeopleSoft Finance, Microsoft 365 applications, and Salesforce is preferred).

Qualifications:

  • A 2-year Accounting Diploma.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an intermediate accounting role, post-diploma, is required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in public sector or educational settings.

Applicants with educational credentials obtained outside of Canada should have their qualifications evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Compensation: $57, $73,528.00 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Finance/Accounting Assistant II).

This position is governed by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
