Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist

A challenging opportunity for a Psychiatrist to join our inpatient Assessment and Stabilization & Comprehensive Psychiatric Care units, starting immediately. This position is within our elective Homewood Specialized Services delivering evidence-based treatments and superior treatment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical psychiatric care to patients, including admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, referral, daily care, and discharge.
  • Diagnose and manage psychiatric disorders, medication management, referral to the Interventional Psychiatry Service (ECT, rTMS, Ketamine infusion) when appropriate, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for individual support return to work planning, and psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Supervise and manage clinical/patient care, including daily rounds and individual assessments to ensure ongoing standards of patient care are met.
  • Collaborate with other physicians, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to provide optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Document patient care, including admission history, mental status, diagnostic impression, treatment plan, weekly progress notes, and comprehensive discharge summaries.
  • Utilize electronic medical platforms, such as Caseworks and BDM, to ensure best practice standards of clinical care are implemented and maintained.
  • Liaise with third-party referrers for continuity of care (VAC, WSIB).
Requirements:
  • A specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent body acceptable to the Royal College and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  • Experience with diagnosis and management of complex psychiatric disorders and comorbid mental health and substance use disorders is preferred.
  • Interest in working with complex and comorbid disorders, as well as ongoing learning and teaching to continually enhance patient care.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and influence with proven critical thinking, analysis, and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to infection prevention and control needs of the hospital.
  • Working knowledge of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a welcomed asset.
