Job Description

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Reading Recovery Teacher to join our team at the York Region District School Board. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in literacy education and a proven track record of success in teaching and coaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, analyze, and summarize data from the Observation of Early Literacy Achievement and Daily Running Records to inform instruction and drive student progress.
  • Plan and deliver Reading Recovery lessons that meet the unique needs of each student, utilizing a range of instructional scaffolds and strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement literacy programs that promote student achievement and meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Provide coaching and support to teachers to enhance their literacy instruction and improve student outcomes.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in literacy education and apply this knowledge to inform instruction and drive student success.

Requirements

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Reading Recovery Teacher Certificate (or willingness to train)
  • Strong understanding of literacy acquisition and the importance of using all available teaching time for assessment, selection, and instruction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, administrators, and other team members.
  • Commitment to early literacy and early intervention, with a focus on promoting student achievement and meeting the needs of diverse learners.
