About the Role

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Claims Manager to lead our claims team and drive business growth. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a wide range of personal and commercial claims, mentoring team members, and collaborating with leaders across the organization to ensure efficiency and business objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Claims Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of claims representatives, providing day-to-day coaching and guidance on claims and ensuring client service levels are met.
  • Mentoring and Development: Provide mentoring and development on complex claim files, ensuring team members have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.
  • Client Experience: Develop and implement strategies to enhance client experience, ensuring our clients receive the highest level of service and support.
  • Claims Management: Manage the brokerage's after-hours claims intake process, tracking and managing claims and potential claims against Cowan Insurance Group.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide subject matter expertise to leaders across the organization regarding complex claims, including interpretation of contract and policy language.
  • Budget Management: Manage budgets for the claims team, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective allocation of funds.
  • Process Improvement: Create and enhance business processes, operations, and workflow within the claims team, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Industry Trends: Monitor and analyze industry trends, changes, and updates, ensuring our organization stays ahead of the curve.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide monthly reporting related to strategic initiatives and KPIs related to performance of the team.
Requirements
  • Experience: Previous experience managing a claims team is an asset, with a minimum of 7 years technical insurance experience with P&C claims or commercial area.
  • Licenses and Designations: RIBO License is required or ability to obtain, with CAIB, CIP, or CRM designation (or working towards designation) being an asset.
  • Skills: Proven strong problem-solving abilities, client-focused approach, excellent organizational, negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with experience in a fast-paced working environment.
