Position Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to manage all financial and accounting functions. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the construction field, with a minimum of 5 years in a relevant role. This position offers a hybrid remote work model, requiring collaboration from both the office and home. The Financial Controller will be responsible for maintaining the financial health of the organization, providing strategic financial insights, and leading the accounting department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all accounting functions including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, reporting any variances.
  • Responsible for the timely preparation and publication of monthly financial statements.
  • Facilitate the preparation of regulatory reports.
  • Investigate technical accounting issues to ensure compliance.
  • Direct and support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  • Manage compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements and tax obligations.
  • Participate in the contractual documentation process, including managing company-wide insurance and bonding documentation.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls; including those related to general financial and project-specific requirements.
  • Provide financial analysis and decision support for project management, ensuring the profitability and financial integrity of projects.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and oversee audit processes.
  • Mentor and develop the accounting team, managing work distribution, systems training, performance assessments, and fostering an effective team dynamic.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in the construction industry with relevant role experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced degrees and business certifications are advantageous.
  • Certification: CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is mandatory. Additional accounting certifications are beneficial.
  • Legal Requirement: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a hybrid remote environment.
