Role Overview

The Lead Coordinator for Regulatory Approvals operates within the guidelines established by the Historical Resources Act. Reporting to the Manager of Regulatory Approvals and Information Management, this position provides strategic leadership to professional personnel who manage the department's evaluation of development proposals, assess applications for intricate project types, and supervises the collection and seamless integration of data arising from development assessments and related historic resource inquiries.

To excel in this role, the Lead Coordinator must collaborate with industry stakeholders, heritage specialists, and departmental personnel to ensure that processes are efficient, clearly defined, and comply with legislative and client expectations. This role is crucial in ensuring that the regulatory application process functions as smoothly as possible. The Lead Coordinator for Regulatory Approvals also engages directly with clients on a daily basis to aid in interpreting requirements and to address project-specific challenges in various scenarios.

Regular responsibilities of this position include the following tasks:

  • Offers leadership, guidance, and technical assistance to members of the Regulatory Approvals team.
  • Oversees the content of regulatory applications from diverse industry sectors to guarantee that adequate and relevant information is gathered to inform decisions regarding the potential impact of development activities on historic resources.
  • Ensures that regulatory processes and outcomes are accurately documented in the department's Online Permitting and Clearance (OPaC) systems and other information repositories.
  • Collaborates closely with Geographic Information System (GIS) Technologists to design and maintain systems and tools that enhance the efficient use of spatial and other data by team members and colleagues.
  • Provides technical direction to staff and clients to optimize the effective use of the Online Permitting and Clearance (OPaC) and GIS systems, spatial data, and other informational resources.
  • Contributes to the formulation of policies and procedures that regulate the requirements for industrial, commercial, and residential activities that may negatively impact historic resources.
