Job Summary

The Utilities Coordinator is a critical role within CN, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our rail network. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing and processing all utilities and work permit applications for Western Canada.

Main ResponsibilitiesUtilities Review and Agreements

• Review technical drawings for utility applications to ensure CN's interests are protected and regulatory requirements are met.

• Negotiate and prepare final agreements with third-party applicants, utility owners, contractors, and municipalities.

• Coordinate internal reviews and discussions with external third-party consultants to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

• Ensure costs are recovered for all third-party reviews and adjust contracts to reflect project specifications.

• Act as the Company's representative at meetings with third parties and municipalities.

Work Permits Review and Agreements

• Receive and review all construction work permits for third-party work on CN property.

• Review construction plans associated with work permits in consultation with internal departments impacted.

• Prepare agreements, ensure costs are received, and documentation is updated.

• Participate in work permit audits and safety site inspections.

• Act as a point of contact for external parties related to right of way for public safety issues.

• Create contracts in SAP for service order and network numbers for chargeables.

• Prepare permits and releases for CN and non-CN work, elevator demolitions, seismic surveys, well sites, and pipeline proximities to protect railway interests.

• Set up networks and contracts for internal and external projects.

• Review restricted clearances.

General Inquiries

• Receive and reply to all Public Works-related inquiries, including process, application requests, status updates, and contact information.

• Work as the internal point of contact for active work permits and utilities with field supervisors.

• Coordinate internal and external parties to discuss special projects as required.

• Maintain detailed spreadsheets of inventory for utility installations, work permits, seismic surveys, and proximities.

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role occasionally requires field work and work outside regular hours.

RequirementsExperience

• Minimum 3 years of overall engineering design, construction, or related field experience.

o Experience reviewing civil engineering plans.

o Experience in real estate contract administration.

Education/Certification/Designation

• High School Diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED).

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
