Our comprehensive grocery store features a scratch bakery, butcher shop, deli, commercial kitchen, Gourmet to Go Cafe, full kitchen, garden centre, and giftware area.
Market Fresh is a celebration of fine food, creating a unique shopping experience for both community members and visitors.Our MF in the Community initiative aims to raise awareness and support for local non-profit programs and charities that align with our mission to buy local, be local, and support local.
The Product Category Specialist plays a vital role in managing the selection, pricing, and promotion of products within designated categories to enhance sales and profitability.
This position is essential for ensuring that the department achieves its sales goals, offers customers a diverse and attractive product range, and maintains robust relationships with suppliers.
Position DetailsThis is a full-time salaried position with a work schedule from Monday to Friday. Health insurance is provided after six months of full-time employment, and life insurance benefits are also available.
Key Responsibilities
- Category Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement category strategies based on market trends, customer preferences, and store objectives.
- Product Selection and Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels to ensure sufficient stock without overstocking.
- Sales and Promotions: Plan and execute promotional activities to boost category sales. Collaborate with the marketing team to create advertising and promotional materials, including newsletters and signage. Analyze sales data to evaluate the effectiveness of promotions and adjust strategies as needed.
- Supplier Relations: Assess supplier performance and address any issues that arise. Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to represent the organization.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to inform decision-making. Prepare regular reports on category performance for management. Utilize data to identify improvement areas and develop action plans.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with store managers, marketing, and finance teams. Provide training and support to store staff on category management practices.
- Post-secondary business degree is an asset.
- Previous experience in category management, merchandising, or a related field.
- Experience in the grocery or retail industry is highly advantageous.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret sales data and market trends.
- A passion for food and community.
