We strive daily to lay the groundwork for future advancements while cultivating a workplace that appreciates diversity, promotes flexibility, and aligns with our mission-driven objectives. Our collaborative and supportive team atmosphere prioritizes learning and development, recognizes individual contributions, and offers a range of benefits tailored to your needs.

SAP is leading the charge in transforming data management within the cloud through our cutting-edge SAP HANA Cloud Service. This service is pivotal to SAP's Business Technology Platform, catering to the data persistence requirements of both SAP's core applications and external clients utilizing the SAP HANA and SAP IQ relational database management systems in the cloud. Our service operates across all major hyperscalers, spans multiple regions, and oversees over 20,000 database instances managing more than 2PB of data.

We are seeking skilled cloud developers to enhance the functionalities of SAP HANA Cloud and the SAP HANA Cloud data lakehouse. Our team focuses on developing services that facilitate self-service operations, ensure fault tolerance, enhance resilience, safeguard data, and provide APIs and monitoring, all while considering scalability in terms of both capacity and cost. We employ a modern technology stack built on Kubernetes and adhere to contemporary development methodologies, including CI/CD, utilizing advanced tools like GitHub Copilot in our daily operations.

At SAP Waterloo, we take pride in our workplace culture and our people. We foster a strong sense of teamwork and shared accountability. Our approach encourages innovation and expedites the transition of ideas into production. We maintain an ambitious yet sustainable pace of work.

As a Senior Developer for Cloud Solutions at SAP, your responsibilities will include:

  • Utilizing and enhancing your skills across various programming languages. While the majority of our code is developed in Go and Python, our developers also engage with systems built in C++ and Java, as well as a variety of languages for infrastructure automation.
  • Applying your expertise and analytical skills to prevent and address production incidents while continuously improving the stability, scalability, and operability of our products.
  • Collaborating effectively within a team-oriented environment, providing and receiving constructive feedback to achieve optimal outcomes for our products.
  • Leading projects on a project-by-project basis, irrespective of your career level.
  • Being empowered to pursue continuous learning, implementing improvements, and driving efficiencies in both technology and processes.
  • Receiving support from management with technical expertise who value the team's capabilities and promote its growth.
  • Participating in a shared on-call rotation.
  • Working with teams distributed across various locations in a matrix structure.

The ideal candidate for the Cloud Infrastructure Development Specialist role will possess:

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, along with a strong desire to collaborate with others.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a platform or DevOps team within a SaaS environment, supporting mission-critical services.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or in the containerization of microservices and container orchestration solutions, particularly Kubernetes and Docker, with a focus on developing Kubernetes operators.
  • Robust problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, with a proven track record of resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Professional experience with systems programming languages such as Go, Rust, C/C++, Java, Python, or Scala, with a preference for Go and Python.
  • Experience with cloud DevOps toolsets, including Grafana and Prometheus.
  • The capability to comprehend systems from foundational principles, reason about distributed systems, concurrency, and hardware, and address systems-related issues.
  • A strong work ethic, a passion for problem-solving, and a self-motivated attitude.
