Our daily focus is on establishing a foundation for the future while fostering a workplace that values diversity, flexibility, and alignment with our mission-driven and forward-thinking objectives. We provide a collaborative, supportive team atmosphere that prioritizes learning and development, acknowledges individual contributions, and offers a variety of benefits tailored to your needs.
Role Overview
SAP is leading the charge in transforming data management within the cloud through our cutting-edge SAP HANA Cloud Service. This service is pivotal to SAP's Business Technology Platform, addressing the data persistence requirements of both SAP's core applications and external clients utilizing the SAP HANA and SAP IQ relational database management systems in the cloud. Our service operates on all major hyperscalers, spans multiple regions, and oversees over 20,000 database instances managing more than 2PB of data.
We are seeking experienced cloud developers to enhance the functionalities of SAP HANA Cloud and the SAP HANA Cloud data lakehouse. Our team is responsible for the services surrounding databases that facilitate self-service operations, ensure fault tolerance, resilience, data security, APIs, and monitoring, while also addressing scalability from both capacity and cost perspectives. We utilize a modern technology stack based on Kubernetes and adopt contemporary development methodologies, including CI/CD, employing advanced tools like GitHub Copilot in our daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and troubleshoot code for cloud services, system automation, and infrastructure that contribute to features in SAP HANA Cloud, often collaborating closely with other service and core database teams.
- Enhance and apply skills across multiple programming languages. While the majority of our code is developed in Go and Python, our developers also engage with systems written in C++ and Java, as well as various languages for infrastructure automation.
- Utilize your expertise and analytical skills to prevent and address production incidents while continuously improving the stability, scalability, and operability of the product.
- Collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment, providing and receiving constructive feedback to achieve optimal outcomes for the product.
- Have the opportunity to lead projects on a project-by-project basis, irrespective of career level.
- Be empowered to pursue continuous learning, driving improvements and efficiencies in both technology and processes.
- Receive support from management with technical expertise who value the team's capabilities and promote its growth.
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation.
- Work with teams distributed across various geographical locations in a matrix structure.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Over 5 years of experience in a platform or DevOps team within a SaaS environment, supporting mission-critical services.
- More than 5 years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or GCP) or in containerizing microservices and container orchestration solutions, particularly Kubernetes and Docker, with a focus on developing Kubernetes operators.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, capable of resolving complex technical challenges.
- Professional experience with systems programming languages such as Go, Rust, C/C++, Java, Python, or Scala, with a preference for Go and Python.
- Familiarity with cloud DevOps toolsets, including Grafana and Prometheus.
- The ability to comprehend systems from foundational principles, reason about distributed systems, concurrency, and hardware, and address systems-related issues.
- A strong work ethic, a passion for problem-solving, and a self-motivated attitude.
Commitment to Inclusion
SAP's culture of inclusion, emphasis on health and well-being, and flexible working models ensure that everyone, regardless of background, feels valued and can perform at their best. We believe that our strength lies in the unique skills and qualities each individual brings to our organization, and we invest in our employees to foster confidence and help everyone reach their full potential.
