Key Responsibilities:

Program Development & Implementation

Oversee the planning and execution of programs, including documentation, scheduling, communication, and reporting. Innovate and propose new animal engagement initiatives that captivate and inspire our target audiences. Apply research-based practices to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of animals throughout all engagement activities. Ensure compliance with internal policies and AZA standards, including the AZA Ambassador Animal Policy. Assess animal care areas to enhance both visitor and internal experiences. Provide coaching to staff on delivering animal engagement programs effectively.

Assessment & Feedback

Analyze animal engagement programs (including tours, events, and media opportunities) to recommend enhancements or new initiatives. Gather feedback from participants to inform future programming. Utilize historical data to ensure animal health and welfare considerations are prioritized.

Strategic Planning

Formulate recommendations for future projects and habitat enhancements to create outstanding experiences for diverse audiences. Coordinate daily and weekly operational plans for the Animal Care Health and Welfare team. Understand on-site amenities and services to support team interactions with visitors.

Collaborative Efforts

Partner with animal care managers and specialists to deliver programs and training. Work with various departments to develop programming that aligns with the organization's mission. Engage with other accredited institutions to share insights on successful programming.

Training & Documentation

Develop and implement training materials and protocols for animal engagement initiatives. Guide and train staff in delivering exceptional animal engagement experiences. Attend relevant conferences and training sessions to enhance professional skills.

Animal Care Involvement

Participate in animal husbandry tasks under the guidance of Animal Care management. Promote safety and best practices within animal care environments.

Qualifications:

A minimum of 5 years' experience in education, interpretation, or animal husbandry is essential. Experience in event planning and coordination is a significant advantage. A post-secondary degree or certification in Animal Welfare/Science, Education/Interpretation, or Event Planning is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. A solid understanding of zoological institutions and a passion for wildlife conservation. Strong focus on customer service and program delivery with a solution-oriented approach. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Familiarity with operant conditioning principles is beneficial. A demonstrated interest in engaging visitors and delivering impactful programs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with discretion in handling sensitive information. Safety-conscious and adaptable to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
