Head of Global Disaster Response Operations

OBJECTIVE:
The Director of the International Disaster Response (IDR) Team is tasked with delivering strategic vision, leadership, and effective execution of the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s disaster response initiatives. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our humanitarian efforts are of exceptional quality, timely, and impactful, particularly for marginalized communities facing crises.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position oversees the daily operations of the IDR Team and Programs, serving as the primary liaison for partnerships with various stakeholders. The Director will supervise IDR personnel and volunteers, ensuring program excellence through collaboration on project planning, design, and execution. Additionally, the role focuses on optimizing resource utilization in alignment with local community needs.
The Director will enhance the organization’s disaster response capabilities by collaborating with staff, regional teams, and local partners to formulate and implement strategies that position the organization as a leader in disaster response and recovery efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the design and execution of disaster response initiatives, contributing to the achievement of humanitarian goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to assess and respond to emerging crises, managing operational processes and security protocols for international response efforts.
- Oversee the management of financial resources, ensuring effective use of funds to maximize impact and compliance with donor requirements.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among IDR staff, field personnel, and external partners to uphold best practices in humanitarian response.
- Monitor and evaluate program quality, ensuring adherence to humanitarian principles and standards.
- Lead a diverse team, fostering a culture of professional development and high performance.
NETWORKING AND COORDINATION:
- Engage with key government and institutional donors to strengthen partnerships and support fundraising initiatives.
- Represent the organization in humanitarian networks and working groups, advocating for strategic partnerships.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local implementing organizations to enhance program effectiveness.
RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT:
- Collaborate with fundraising teams to launch donor appeals and campaigns, increasing resources for humanitarian initiatives.
- Educate stakeholders about disaster response needs and activities to enhance community engagement.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Ensure that disaster response efforts are responsive to the evolving global humanitarian landscape, promoting innovation and learning.
- Research and develop resources to enhance disaster management capabilities among staff and partners.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:
This position is responsible for overseeing the performance and development of all IDR Team staff and volunteers, ensuring a high-performance culture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in humanitarian response management and advocacy.
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and multi-sectoral responses.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in challenging environments.
EDUCATION:
- Master's degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Experience in cross-cultural settings is essential.
