Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Environmental Supervisor, the Wastewater Operator will take charge of all operational facets of the Wastewater, Scrubber, and Decanting processes, ensuring adherence to all Health, Safety & Environmental protocols and initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


WASTEWATER AND AIR TREATMENT:

  • Oversee and operate Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) equipment, including a packed bed wet scrubber and venturi, along with two DAF systems operating in series.
  • Implement process modifications based on manual data, instrumentation readings, and visual inspections; troubleshoot as necessary.
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and fleet departments to ensure effective wastewater treatment.
  • Manage chemical dosing systems to uphold high performance, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency.
  • Document and maintain data in WWTP shift reports and preventative maintenance checklists.
  • Collect and test water samples, including jar testing, to verify process accuracy and treatment efficiency.
  • Notify the Environmental Supervisor of all significant operational, environmental, and safety issues promptly.

USED COOKING OIL DECANTING:

  • Heat and pump off grease from city and rural trailers, drums, and pails, involving some lifting and maneuvering.
  • Ensure all documentation for Grease Receiving and Processing Procedures is meticulously organized.
  • Operate grease processing machinery, including a centrifuge, and collect samples for impurity testing and Quality Control assessments.

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain cleanliness in the Wastewater Treatment Plant, grease processing equipment, and surrounding areas during assigned shifts.
  • Load, unload, and store materials, chemicals, and supplies; monitor chemical inventory and inform the Environmental Supervisor of required supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in a supportive role and assist as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for wastewater, scrubber, venturi, and decanting operations.
  • Assist Shift Supervisors and production staff with troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Support environmental health and safety initiatives through hazard reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Safety-first mindset.
  • A university degree or Class 1 Wastewater Certification is an asset, or the ability to pass the certification exam within six months of hire.
  • Adaptable and composed demeanor to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • 2 to 3 years of experience in manufacturing; rendering experience is advantageous.
  • Strong initiative and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to achieve results with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work nights and weekends, including 12-hour shifts.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, and pull between 10 to 70 pounds.
