Role Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical, operational, and maintenance insights throughout the development, design, construction, and commissioning phases of capital projects associated with wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Offer expert guidance during the commissioning phases to ensure quality and efficiency in project execution.
  • Formulate strategies and metrics to enhance the performance of newly implemented process equipment.
  • Foster continuous improvement initiatives during capital upgrades to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with the Veolia team, both on-site and in the office, to drive project success.
  • Lead the technical aspects of capital program delivery for wastewater treatment projects.
  • Provide assistance to project managers within the wastewater treatment program, actively participating in document reviews and meetings.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with plant operations and maintenance teams.
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders to prioritize program objectives and achieve collective success.
  • Support the ongoing capital program cost model by advising on process selection and efficiencies for key equipment.
  • Assist in coordinating the delivery of program objectives related to capital, operations, and maintenance to meet financial and environmental targets.
  • Develop business strategies aimed at optimizing processes for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Provide sound technical recommendations to enhance plant operations under varying conditions.
  • Champion process optimization initiatives following major upgrades, leveraging technical expertise to identify and implement improvements.
  • Aid in managing operational change within the treatment program.
  • Participate as a member of the management team, preparing documentation and recommendations for leadership discussions.

Primary Duties:

  • Actively support the program by reviewing and assisting in the preparation of essential project deliverables.
  • Contribute recommendations to management teams regarding program strategies and improvements.
  • Advocate for key program concepts such as procurement enhancements, operational efficiency, and cost management.
  • Provide technical insights during the design and construction phases to ensure project success.
  • Assist in identifying and managing technical program risks.
  • Understand the interactions between existing processes and new constructions to mitigate risks effectively.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer to clients regarding technical issues related to treatment processes.
  • Develop and implement strategies that prioritize the program's best interests.
  • Attend project meetings to identify and address cross-program risks.

The Technical Leader serves as the primary liaison between technical and performance teams across the global network, ensuring comprehensive support for all areas of the wastewater treatment program.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • At least 12 years of experience, with a minimum of 8 years in wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Previous experience in program management and quality control processes is essential.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Manitoba or the ability to obtain it shortly after employment.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and integrate efforts across various program team members.
  • Extensive experience in water/wastewater treatment environments, with a strong understanding of relevant methods and practices.
  • Familiarity with challenges related to brownfield projects and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of process management, QA/QC procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in budget preparation and cost control, with analytical skills to manage complex data sets.
  • Strong attention to detail, planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong networking and collaboration skills to build strategic relationships.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Word, with the ability to create and modify spreadsheets.
  • Experience with Google Suite tools is an asset.
  • Knowledge of current environmental challenges is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with other engineering disciplines and prior experience in facility construction is beneficial.
  • Previous commissioning and construction experience in water and wastewater facilities is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily based on-site and in the office.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Potential exposure to industrial and construction hazards.
  • Physical demands include sitting, using hands, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
