Under the guidance of the Community Development Supervisor – Event and Neighbourhood Support, this role is dedicated to the planning, organization, oversight, and management of a diverse array of community engagement projects. The focus is on fostering local initiatives and enhancing the visibility and enthusiasm surrounding the 'Hey Neighbour' initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation

Collaborates with the Community Development Supervisor to conceptualize, execute, and participate in various community engagement activities, such as play streets, block parties, open streets, and community celebration days. Oversees the recruitment, evaluation, training, scheduling, and recognition of program staff and volunteers. Familiarizes with and applies all relevant municipal policies and procedures, providing ongoing training to ensure adherence. Conducts research on community needs, demographics, and best practices to ensure engagement initiatives are effectively targeted. Fosters cooperation and works collaboratively with municipal departments, community organizations, and agencies to ensure a cohesive approach to community engagement. Assists in updating the municipal website and promotes initiatives through social media channels, collaborating with partners for cross-promotion.

Customer Relations and Support

Ensures staff and volunteers are well-informed about community programs and can effectively address public inquiries. Develops and implements training programs to uphold customer service excellence in line with municipal standards. Responds to inquiries and facilitates communication with the public, staff, and community groups, ensuring timely and proactive actions. Maintains regular communication with partners to stay informed about community initiatives. Ensures effective and professional customer notification processes are in place. Provides ongoing support to staff through training and regular meetings. Upholds a positive and professional demeanor at all times.

Safety and Compliance

Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations and emergency procedures. Advises supervisors on equipment needs, facility maintenance, and safety concerns to guarantee a safe environment for all participants. Trains and supervises staff to ensure secure handling of records, keys, supplies, and equipment. Ensures staff maintain current qualifications and keeps accurate staff records. Recommends necessary repairs and improvements for equipment and facilities to the Community Development Supervisor. Takes immediate action to halt any activities posing safety risks and notifies the Community Development Supervisor.

Administrative Duties

Performs administrative tasks in accordance with municipal policies to enhance operational efficiency, including tracking engagement and volunteer activities. Responsible for managing inventory and procurement of equipment and supplies for community engagement initiatives. Collaborates with departments to ensure communication and promotional materials meet quality standards. Completes necessary documentation for any incidents and promptly informs the Community Development Supervisor. Maintains statistical data to identify trends and ensure community development initiatives are relevant. Performs additional job-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

A degree or diploma in Recreation, Community Development, Event Management, or a related field is preferred. Experience in coordinating community events, programs, and partnerships is advantageous. Certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario HIGH FIVE is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to issues promptly. Experience engaging with community leaders and the public. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislative requirements and best practices in community safety. Familiarity with social media as a communication tool. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment. Strong leadership and supervisory skills. Creativity and innovation in designing community initiatives. Capability to perform physical tasks associated with the role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for work-related travel. A current and acceptable police record check is required.

Compensation:

The hourly wage for this position (up to 35 hours per week) is competitive. The successful candidate must be flexible to work during various hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
